COVID-19 Update – March 30, 2020

On March 20th, 2020 Baseball Alberta updated their response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The updated response can be viewed in its entirety on their website at http://baseballalberta.com/.  As a result, Barrhead Minor Ball will now be extending the suspension of all pre-season activities until April 30, 2020 consistent with Baseball Alberta and Baseball Canada’s directives.  This will include any competitive tryouts, practices and clinics that may have already been scheduled or planned prior to April 30, 2020.

On March 17th the Barrhead County ball league tentatively canceled its 2020 season, which affects our T-Ball registrations, and on March 25th Westlock Minor Ball ceased registration and canceled the Pembina House League meeting scheduled for April 2nd, which impacts most of our ‘A’ baseball and softball teams. Consequently, BMBA’s AGM originally scheduled for April 16th will also need to be postponed until we can determine whether or not our various leagues will be able to proceed with any type of delayed or modified 2020 activities.

Barrhead Minor Ball will continue to issue further updates to our members based on the provincial governing bodies’ renewed policies as they become available.  Should a permanent cancellation of any planned activity be deemed necessary moving forward, then any fees already paid to BMBA will be refunded after that time.

We are now just over one month away from our planned 2020 regular season start date. Our hope is that we will still be able to proceed with some type of 2020 season, but only time will tell. In the meantime, please everyone stay healthy and stay safe.

BMBA Response to COVID-19

On March 13, 2020 Baseball Alberta released an update regarding their response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Their response can be viewed in its entirety on their website at http://baseballalberta.com/.  As a result, Barrhead Minor Ball will also be suspending all pre-season activities until April 6, 2020 consistent with Baseball Alberta’s recommendations.  This will include any competitive tryouts, practices and clinics that may have already been scheduled or planned prior to April 6, 2020.  Softball Alberta has not yet issued an official policy statement as of this time, but we expect their response to be consistent with Baseball Alberta’s and most (if not all) other sports organizations so far.

Baseball Alberta has indicated they will issue another policy update on or before April 3, 2020.  Barrhead Minor Ball will issue further updates to our members based on the provincial governing bodies’ renewed policies at that time.  Should a permanent cancellation of any planned activity be deemed necessary moving forward, then any fees already paid to BMBA will be refunded after that time.  As we are still two months away from our planned 2020 regular season start date, the hope is that we will still be able to proceed normally with the regular season schedule and reschedule any suspended clinics or other related activities as well.
